The Marquee — 1,500 Seats

The brief

Madinet Masr commissioned an event venue for Taj City, its New Cairo community: a hall that seats 1,500 guests within an area of about 4,675 m². NoVi holds the project as design & build contractor, responsible for the architectural works, the steel structure, MEP, the façade, FF&E coordination, and the infrastructure and landscape around the building.

The challenge

A venue at this scale is a coordination problem as much as a design one. A long-span steel structure, the building services a 1,500-seat hall depends on, a façade that gives the building its public face, and the furniture and equipment of the interior all have to arrive at the same answer — and the ground around the building has to be ready when the doors open.

Our approach

Holding design and execution in one contract lets those packages be resolved together rather than in sequence. The architecture, structure and MEP are coordinated from the design stage, the façade is developed with the structure that carries it, and FF&E is coordinated inside the same programme, while infrastructure and landscape are planned as part of the building rather than after it.

For the client this means one accountable partner for every discipline on the building, from the design drawings to the site.
