Smart home & automation

Smart Home & Home Automation, Designed into Your Interiors

Lighting scenes, motorised shades, climate, security and audio, planned with the interiors from the first drawing, so the technology disappears into the design and the home simply responds.

Visualisation

Smart home automation works best when nobody notices it: no rows of switches, no visible cables, no app that needs a manual. At NoVi Designs & Finishing we plan the system together with the interiors, so keypads, sensors, speakers and shade pockets are drawn into walls, ceilings and joinery before anything is built.

The control layer is designed as part of our interior design and MEP works, then installed and programmed with certified system partners under the same contract and our ISO 9001:2015 quality system. It is the integrated approach behind our Luxury Lifestyle Awards 2022 win for Best Luxury Villa Interior Design in Egypt, applied to homes in Cairo and Riyadh and for clients in the UAE.

Home automation systems we design and install

Start with one system or connect them all; each is specified to work on its own and together.

  1. Smart lighting control

Dimming and scenes for arrival, dining, cinema and night, set up with our lighting design so every circuit has a purpose.

  2. Motorised curtains and shades

Blackout, sheer and external shading on schedules or sun position, with pelmets and pockets sized in the ceiling design.

  3. Climate and AC control

Room-by-room temperature, schedules and away modes linked to your air-conditioning system, so unused rooms are not cooled all day.

  4. Security, CCTV and intercom

Cameras, alarms and video intercom viewable from your phone, with camera positions agreed on the façade and landscape drawings.

  5. Access control and smart locks

Gates, main doors and staff areas opened by code, card or app, with access profiles for family, guests and household staff.

  6. Multi-room audio and cinema

In-ceiling speakers, a dedicated home cinema and a ventilated equipment cupboard designed into the joinery.

02Smart Home & Automation

Smart home design that starts with the interiors

Most disappointing smart homes were added after the design was finished: a keypad in the middle of a feature wall, no space for the shade motor, weak Wi-Fi in the room that matters. We treat automation as a design discipline instead. Device positions sit on the joinery elevations, cable routes are coordinated with the MEP drawings, and the equipment rack gets its own ventilated space.

The result feels calm: one well-placed keypad instead of a bank of switches, one scene for the evening's lights, shades and temperature, controlled from wall panels, phones or voice.

03Smart Home & Automation

Villa automation for new builds and finished homes

In a villa or apartment still under finishing, a wired system is usually the right choice: cables are laid before plastering, and bus standards such as KNX give stable, expandable control of lighting, shades and climate. In a home that is already finished, wireless systems let us add automation with far less opening of walls and ceilings. We recommend the approach after the site survey, never before.

  • Core functions stay usable from wall keypads if the internet drops
  • Spare capacity is planned so rooms can be added later
  • Every device is labelled and recorded in the handover file

How a smart home project runs

  1. Lifestyle brief and survey

We walk the home with you, agree which rooms and functions matter, and check the site conditions and existing wiring.

  2. System design and schedule

Device layouts, scene lists and a priced equipment schedule, so you see exactly what each room will do and cost.

  3. Coordination and first fix

Cable routes, back boxes and shade pockets are built into the finishing works before walls and ceilings are closed.

  4. Installation and programming

Our certified partners install and program the system while our site team coordinates it with joinery, lighting and furniture.

  5. Testing, handover and training

Every scene is tested with you, the family is shown how to use it, and you receive the documentation for the whole system.

05Smart Home & Automation

What shapes the cost of a smart home

  • The number of rooms and functions you automate, and whether you start with lighting only
  • Wired or wireless technology, which depends largely on the home's finishing stage
  • Motorised shades, audio and cinema, which add hardware as well as programming
  • Security scope: number of cameras, gates and access points

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what clients ask us before a site survey. Not covered here? Ask the team directly.

Ask the team

Can you automate a home that is already finished?

Yes. Wireless systems let us add lighting, shade, climate and security control with minimal opening of walls and ceilings. We survey the home first and tell you what can be achieved without disturbing the finishes.

Should I choose a wired system such as KNX or a wireless one?

For a home under construction or full renovation, wired bus systems are usually more stable and easier to expand. For a finished home, wireless is faster and less disruptive. We recommend the platform with our system partner after the survey.

Can I control everything from one app?

That is the aim of the design. Lighting, shades, climate, cameras, intercom and audio are integrated so the family uses one app and a few wall keypads, with voice control where you want it.

Who installs and supports the system?

We design and coordinate the system; certified partners install and program it under our contract, and our site team manages the interface with the rest of the works. Aftercare terms are set out in the proposal.

Do you deliver smart homes in Saudi Arabia and the UAE?

Yes. Our Riyadh office designs smart villas as part of interior and finishing projects across the Kingdom, and we serve homeowners in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from Cairo and Riyadh. See our UAE page.

How much does a smart home cost?

It depends on the rooms, the functions and the technology, so we do not quote a flat rate. After the survey you receive a priced device schedule you can phase, starting with lighting and adding the rest later.
