Lina Farm commissioned four main gates in 6th of October City, Giza. NoVi is the specialist design & build contractor, covering the foundations and civil works, structural steel and metalwork, Alucobond cladding, the architectural details, lighting and electrical works, and the gate systems that operate them.
A gate is a small building with a large job. It is the first thing visitors see, so it carries the identity of the whole site, yet it also has to control access every day, stand up to wind and sun, and carry moving parts that must keep working. Structure, cladding, lighting and the gate mechanism meet in a very compact piece of architecture, where every junction is on show.
Design & build lets these elements be resolved as one object rather than as separate trades. The foundations and structural steel are designed around the gate systems they carry, the Alucobond cladding and architectural details are developed on that frame, and lighting and electrical works are planned into the structure from the start, so that power and fittings sit inside the design instead of on its surface. One contractor is accountable for the four gates from drawing to site.
