A showroom planned like a library, where kitchens and joinery are chosen by touching real materials in true light rather than from a catalogue.
The concept brief
Design narrative
A concept for a 600 m² kitchen and joinery showroom in a Cairo commercial district.
Most kitchen showrooms show finished rooms; few help people decide. This concept puts the decision at the centre. One long wall holds a material library — shallow drawers and pull-out panels of timber veneers, stone, lacquers, metals and fabrics, all at full size. Opposite, a large sample table sits under a lit ceiling tuned to daylight colour, so a walnut door and a travertine worktop can be laid side by side and judged as they will look at home.
Around the library, a few complete kitchen settings are fully working — taps run, drawers are loaded, lighting is real — so proportions and ergonomics can be tested rather than imagined. Cut-away joinery samples show what usually stays hidden: carcass construction, edges, hinges and runners. A consultation desk with a large screen links the physical samples to 3D visualisations of each visitor's own layout, and the floor stays a neutral concrete so every finish reads truly.
