Fragrance Atelier
An intimate oud and perfume boutique centred on one stone scent table, where fragrance is chosen slowly, as in a majlis.
The concept brief
Design narrative
A concept for a 90 m² oud and perfume boutique in a Riyadh mall.
Choosing oud is a conversation, not a transaction, so this concept lowers both the light and the pace. A perforated bronze screen, drawn from the geometry of traditional lattice work, veils the shopfront so the boutique glows softly within the bright mall. Inside, walls of smoked walnut are carved into deep niches, each lit from within through amber glass, where bottles and wooden oud boxes are displayed like objects in a private collection.
At the centre stands a round scent table in dark stone with a low bronze rim, where guests sit with an adviser and try fragrances on paper strips and on the skin. A small bakhoor corner behind a bronze screen has its own discreet extraction, so incense can be offered without clouding the shop. Deep-toned upholstery, a soft wool rug and a quiet gift-wrapping counter at the rear complete a room designed for lingering.
