Najdi Courtyard Residence
A contemporary Riyadh residence that reinterprets the Najdi courtyard house — thick earth-toned walls, small deep openings and family life turned inward to a shaded court.

Design narrative
A concept for a 900 m² contemporary courtyard residence in Riyadh, inspired by Najdi architecture.
Traditional Najdi houses answered the heat of central Arabia with thick mud-brick walls, few openings to the street and rooms gathered around an open court. This concept keeps those principles and translates the materials. The outer walls are finished in a textured earth-toned render, pierced by small, deeply recessed windows and topped by a stepped parapet that recalls the old crenellations, redrawn in clean lines.
Inside, the house opens up. A square central court with a date palm and a shallow water basin, paved in warm stone, draws light and air into every room. The guest majlis sits by the entrance with a court of its own, and the family quarters wrap the main court on two levels, with a shaded gallery above. Doors carry a contemporary reading of Najdi geometry, carved in walnut with fine bronze inlay.
