The Shaded Waterfront Villa
A waterfront villa in Dubai designed around shade — a deep slatted canopy, a pool terrace on the water and interiors that stay calm under bright light.
The concept brief
Design narrative
A concept for a 550 m² villa in a Dubai waterfront community.
On the waterfront, the view and the sun often arrive from the same direction. This concept resolves that tension with a deep canopy of timber-toned aluminium slats that wraps the water-facing facade and the pool terrace, cutting glare and heat while keeping the horizon in sight. The villa has two storeys: living spaces on the ground floor open fully onto the terrace, and bedrooms above sit back behind shaded balconies.
The interiors are designed to feel cool under strong light. Floors are large-format honed travertine, walls a pale mineral plaster, and the joinery walnut with champagne-bronze details, which reads warm in the evening without darkening the rooms by day. The pool runs to the water's edge over a submerged travertine ledge, and an outdoor kitchen and lounge sit under the canopy for long evenings on the terrace.
