Longchamps Hotel in Zamalek, Cairo, commissioned NoVi for the interior design of its double rooms, in a modern style. The design works within a room of 30 m², so the brief is defined by a single room type in which every square metre has to earn its place.
A double room of around this size has to fit a full programme — a bed for two, storage, luggage, a place to sit and a place to work — without feeling crowded. Because a hotel repeats the same room many times, every decision is multiplied: a layout that works once works throughout, and a flaw is repeated just as faithfully.
A modern style gives a compact room clarity: clean lines, a calm and limited palette and furniture that does not crowd the floor help the space feel ordered and larger than its footprint. NoVi's interior design team developed the double room within this direction, taking layout, circulation and the guest's everyday routine as the starting points of the design.
