The Reading Room Lounge
A hotel lounge designed as a library — a quiet room off the lobby where guests can read, work or take coffee away from the traffic of arrivals.

Design narrative
A concept for a 260 m² library lounge in a Cairo city hotel.
City hotel lobbies are busy places: arrivals, meetings, luggage and constant movement. This concept gives the hotel a second, quieter room beside the lobby, planned as a library. Double-height walnut bookcases line the long walls, reached by a bronze rolling ladder, and the space is divided into a sequence of smaller settings — a long communal table, armchairs by the windows and deep alcoves for one or two people.
The alcoves are built into the depth of the bookcases, upholstered in wool and lit by their own reading lamps, so a guest can sit alone without feeling exposed in a large room. Rugs, fabric-wrapped ceiling panels and the books themselves absorb sound and keep conversations low. At one end, a coffee and tea counter in honed travertine serves the room through the day and into the evening.
Light is layered to change with the hours: filtered daylight through linen blinds in the morning, and by night a low, warm scheme of shelf lighting, table lamps and a few pendants over the communal table. The palette — walnut, travertine, deep green wool and aged bronze — is chosen to feel settled and familiar, closer to a private study than to a public lounge.
