El Mukhtar Sweets

The brief

El Mukhtar Sweets is a sweets shop in Al Khobar, in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. NoVi's commission was the interior design of the shop, presented in 3D visualisations: the display counters, the wall displays behind them, the columns, ceiling and lighting, the floor, and the shopfront through which customers arrive.

The challenge

In a sweets shop the product is the main event: trays of sweets have to be seen clearly, served quickly and kept fresh, while customers queue, choose and pay in the same compact space. The interior must frame the display without competing with it, stay easy to keep spotless, and still give the brand a memorable face — for everyday customers and for boxes chosen as gifts and for occasions.

Our approach

The renders organise the shop around one continuous line of counters that wraps the room, so every tray is on view from the entrance. Deep green fluted fronts with white tops give the counters a crisp, confectionery-box character, edged by a band of terrazzo that sets them off from the polished concrete floor.

Behind the counters, arched niches with timber shelving display packaged products, while light-timber cladding on the columns and a white ceiling with soft, curved cove lighting keep the room bright and warm. The round green sign repeats on the walls as the shop's signature, and a fully glazed shopfront opens the interior to the street.
